Thanks for all the responses, and you're right, the way I broached this problem doesn't belong in this group, but I guess the jist of the question was really - was the way I was trying to translate "é" acceptable or not? and if there might be some other (better?) way of doing the translation? For those of you who suggested the 'encoding="iso-8859-1"' the problem is that I have "Montrél" in my XML NOT "Montréal" otherwise that suggestion would have worked fine. Thanks again, Dan -----Original Message----- From: Nancy Pate [mailto:paten@xxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: June 20, 2003 9:26 AM To: xsl-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: doctype declaration and msxmldom Okay. Then shouldn't Dan's DOCTYPE declaration work? You can declare ISO entities in a DTD. Or is it just an MSXML problem? -----Original Message----- From: owner-xsl-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:owner-xsl-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of David Carlisle Sent: Friday, June 20, 2003 9:14 AM To: xsl-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: doctype declaration and msxmldom > But DOCTYPE requires a DTD. That is a tautology though, the DTD is that that is referenced by the doctype. It doesn't require an external file and it doesn't require that all elements are declared. <!DOCTYPE a [ <!ATTLIST b x ID #IMPLIED> ]> <a> <b x="z"/> </a> is a well formed document and the element b has ID z.
