[OT] Can XML elements contain text as well as other el

Hi all,

This is a bit OT, but I am thinking of ways to reduce the depth of an XML
doc, to reduce the amount of templates in my xsl doc.

Can you mix text in with the child elements within an element node?  Or do
the text elements have to be in a leaf element node?
