(//*[@url=$docUri])[1]

Of course if you can eliminate the //* and provide a more specific path,
it will be faster. Or use keys:

<xsl:key name="elem-by-url" match="*" use="@url"/>
...
<xsl:template ...>
  ...
  <xsl:apply-templates select="key('elem-by-url',$docUri)"/>
