Interesting. The moment of epiphany for me was when I saw his unofficial
notation for what he was at the time calling a "universal name" (now
"expanded-name"):

  <cars:part xmlns:cars="http://www.cars.com/xml"/>
  maps to
  <{http://www.cars.com/xml}part/>

I kind of wish they had gone ahead and allowed the latter syntax.
