 But yes, it is of interest; I need to match variablelist containing *nothing but* title?,varlistentry+. There can not be any other elements, and if there is a title, it must come first.I think that's called validation :-) Both the XPath1.0 solution and the proposed simplification do the same, and can be used for the same tasks. They both can for example be used for test="", template match="", in transformations, or in validation. The functionality and applicability stays the same, only the length and complexity is different.
