I don't want to point to generated html docs. Rather, I would like to generate a XSL transformed html "document" with hyperlinks to fragments (2nd level nodes) of the xml source document. well yes that I can understand but that isn't linking to templates in the xsl stylesheet, which is what you asked for first, that;s linking back to the XML source. but again your further description essentially means you want to link to generated html rather than the xml source... I want to make this document less cumbersome to read by rendering it in html. It's a long document, so rather than rendering it in one long html file, I want to break it up into sections, or several html pages. So you need html anchors in the generated HTMl for each section, and generate a table of contents (in html) that links to these html pages, don't you? Can I do this using xsl? In standard XSLT 1 you can only generate one output doc, so you would need several passes with XSLT, one for each section, and one to generate the toc. However most XSLT systems (not msxml, or mozilla's transformiix) offer an extension element that allows multiple output. saxon:output, xt:document, xalan:redirect etc. David _____________________________________________________________________ This message has been checked for all known viruses by Star Internet delivered through the MessageLabs Virus Scanning Service.
