Depends what he wants with the text, if he's willing to chain his
transformations and how well marked up his text is(or should I say how
granular his markup is?).

(The path suggestion was because the question was somewhat unclear I had
the impression at first that he actually wanted his text spiraled,
although after rereading I figured he wanted what is below.)

			Hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
                  Hhhhhh picture hhhhhh
			Hhhhhh picture hhhhhh
			Hhhhhh picture hhhhhh
			Hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

i.e The impression I got was that he meant that if he had a text

This is my great text here that I want to use
This is my great text here that I want to use
This is my great text here that I want to use
This is my great text here that I want to use
This is my great text here that I want to use
This is my great text here that I want to use

Then he wanted to get the following out of it:

This is my great text here that I want to use
This is my picture picture picture great text
here that Ipicture picture picture want to us
e This is picture picture picture my great te
xt here thpicture picture picture at I want t
o use This is my great text here that I want
to use This is my great text here that I want
to use.

Damn I can't even get it to flow by hand!
agreed it would be so awful a process it would not be worth
contemplating in svg although certainly doable in theory as so many
things are, however I also got the impression that he was using FOP for
which a float would not be the solution. (I lost his original post as
well but I think somewhere back in the thread FOP was mentioned)

As there was some lack of clarity I hope to hear that in fact what he
wants is the easier

This is my great text here that I want to use
This is my picture picture picturewant to use
This is my picture picture picturewant to use
This is my picture picture picturewant to use
This is my picture picture picturewant to use
This is my great text here that I want to use

Which can be done using svg. Although truthfully I haven't tried running
an svg like that through Fop, I assume as it uses Batik it should work.
