Hi DPawson/ all, Thanks for the reply. If i calculate the expression "position() -1" as <xsl:for-each select="child::*"> <xsl:variable name="test_var" select="position() - 1"></xsl:variable> <xsl:apply-templates> select="."></xsl:apply-templates> </xsl:for-each> I get the series i want(0, 1, 2..) but i'm unable to use the variable as <xsl:template match="nv_pair"> <xsl:number level="single" count="nv_pair" from="nv_pair"/> <xsl:copy-of select="$test_var"/> </xsl:template> because i get an error that the variable is "out-of-context". How can i bring that variable within the scope(context). My sincerest thanks for reading through. ____________________________________________________________________________ ___________ Vinoth iDEN OMC Software, GSG Motorola, India voice: 91-040-3308090 extn:3208 ____________________________________________________________________________ ___________ -----Original Message----- From: DPawson@xxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:DPawson@xxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Friday, August 02, 2002 7:12 PM To: xsl-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: how to get position() > The XSL > file snippet is: > <xsl:template match="filterable_body_data"> > fill_filterable_body() > { > <xsl:for-each select="child::*"> > <xsl:apply-templates > select="."></xsl:apply-templates> > </xsl:for-each> > } Missing </xsl:template> You can't nest templates. > I would like to have count from zero(like 0,1,2..). All xslt counting is from 1..... n, not from 0 Adjust as necessary.
