I feel the need for speed!

I am new at this.......
I am using an ASP with XML and XSL everything is working fine except for the
speed! The opening page takes 3 to 4 seconds to load on my desktop and 35 to
40 seconds to load on my Symbol 8146 Handheld...... and it is only 6
buttons. If I write out the HTML directly the page is instantly drawn on my
handheld unit (about 3 or 4 seconds) does anyone have a clue on how to get
the client (handheld) to go faster? It is death to this project if I can not
get it to load in less then 5 seconds.
