I've come across a new glitch in transforming my xhtml file. It was doing

<img src="image85.gif" />

The transformation works if the DOCTYPE declaration is deleted from the XHTML file. This indicates some kind of validation problem. Indeed, some Xerces gives: h.xml:25:22: [Error] Attribute "alt" is required and must be specified for element type "img". This means you'll have to use <img src="image85.gif" alt="some descriptive text" /> Though luck that MSXML can't be bothered with proper error reporting if run from within the browser. The real problem is that virtually every other XSLT processor runs the parser with validation turned off, so that the problem is hard to track down for unsuspecting users.
