The discussion was for an xml structure like this...

  <b>
   <c> </c>
   <c> </c>
   <c> </c>
  </b>
  <b>
   <c> </c>
   <c> </c>
   <c> </c>
  </b>
</a>

Not the one u have given.. so in this case the discussion was .. 
To reach  C, which is better
a//b//c or a//c..
I think u got the problem wrong
