Depending on what you're after and how ambitous you're feeling, you might consider taking a look at the CommonLisp FORMAT function http://www.xanalys.com/software_tools/reference/HyperSpec/Body/22_c.htm It goes beyond printf, providing for iteration, conditional output and controlled indentation.
