You don't say but I assume that you have the somewhat confusing mm/dd/yyy order. If instead you used the ISO format 1999-04-15 then you could just use xsl:sort and lexicographic sorting, or translate(@Trade_Date,'/','') and numeric sorting. Also you'd be able to declare that attribute as a date with W3C XML schema, should you ever wish to.
