It's unfortunate that lists like this often get requests that take the
general form "Help!  Please fo my job for me."

I will be helpful and note that the syntax of XPath arithmetic
expressions is documented in the XPath specification at

    http://www.w3.org/TR/xpath

I'll also note that I've never expected my employer to buy a book for
me.  I've always figured that my employer paid me enough as a software
developer that I could occasionally afford the cost of a reference
book.
