sql server xml output problem

whereas everyone is correct with their answer, i wondered who actually
checked their answer with a SQL server......

the reason why i suggest this is due to the behavior of SQL server, which
can be configured differently with respect to the reported behavior; what
would have been useful is getting the version and how the SQL server is
being used in this situation as a few different techniques can work, with
all solutions presented ( and bugs with certain versions ).

cheers, jim fuller
