u can get the name of the element with the name() function, apologies if u
know this already.

No, I did not know this function (I am not very good at this, which you have undoubtly found out already).


Is the syntax
<xsl:variable name="foo" select="/*/name()"/>
for putting the root-elements name into a variable?
