(a) The properties supplied to Saxon's Outputter are the same as those you supply to JAXP interfaces like setOutputProperties(): see the JAXP 1.1 documentation (on java.sun.com) for details. (b) It's best to avoid using Saxon's native interfaces (lie the Outputter), nearly always you can achieve what you want using the JAXP interfaces alone.
