(But I don't know of any direct support for XPointer in XSLT processors....) Also, there's plenty of interesting work going on (along lines suggested by a couple of the posts in this thread) for converting one hierarchy into another. This approach takes the position that rather than seeking to be "the" text, an XML instance can work as an ad-hoc representation of a text -- and thus that several XML documents together can provide a fuller description. Patrick's excellent XSLT-based approach to an SGML-like "CONCUR" feature falls into this category.
