Apart from missing a space as already noted, you'll have to add the
jar-files itself to the classpath (directories are searched for class
files only, jar files are seen as directories).

Try
java -classpath saxon.jar com.icl.saxon.Stylesheet hello.xml hello.xsl > helloworld.html

This will work at least with Java 1.2 and greater (you are advised
to get and install Java 1.3 ASAP, as this has many advantages).
I'm not sure whether you'll have to add classes.zip to the classpath
explicitely in Java 1.1, if the line above gives you errors, try

java -classpath saxon.jar:/usr/java1.1/lib/classes.zip com.icl.saxon.Stylesheet hello.xml hello.xsl > helloworld.html
