can't you just go <xsl:template match="input.form"> <xsl:for-each select="*[not(self::input.form or self::input.link)]"> ... > Once I've processed an <input.form> element I mark it with a 'done' > attribute to stop it being processed again (trust me on that one). No I don't trust that at all! XSLT has a read-only input tree.
