Linda, This is a bit off topic because it is just a netscape question. Like I said frames.main.document.open("text/html", "replace") or frames["main"].document.open("text/html", "replace") will work in all of them. Digging a little further you might get problems with <frameset onload="populateFrames()" rows="64,*"> <frame name="header" scrolling="no" noresize target="main"> <frame name="main"> </frameset> because *STUPID* netscape does not create an actual frame if there is no src attribute. So changing <frame name="main" src=""> which you wouldn't want to do or <frame name="main" src="javascript:return '';"> or <frame name="main" src="blank.htm"> will allow you to open and write into the frame. I wish I hadn't worked it out now. The sooner people stop supporting and using this pile of c*** the better.
