[XSL-LIST Mailing List Archive Home] [By Thread] [By Date] [Recent Entries] [Reply To This Message] RE: how can I get the subelement
> <?xml version="1.0" ?> > <xsl:stylesheet > xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" version="1.0" > > > <xsl:template match="//author/*" > > <xsl:value-of select="name()" /> > </xsl:template> > </xsl:stylesheet> > This template rule never fires, because the source document doesn't contain any elements that are children of an <author> element. So the whole document is being processed using the built-in template rules, which do a recursve descent of the document, outputting only the text nodes. (It feels odd to sit here reading the titles of a random pile of books that were cluttering my desk around a year ago when I wrote this example. I guess I asked for it.)
