Hello,

I'm not sure about how much this is relevant to the discussion, 
but in case it'd be of some interest, I mention something I wrote
some time ago in order to use regular expressions in XSLT.
It's build with xt and the ORO PerlTools (http://www.oroinc.com)

Use case :

An XML doc, static or generated, where text nodes have to be
cleaned up before HTML display.
