IMHO, XSLT cannot replace a programming language in its current shape
(standard XSLT is lacking many key functions), but it can very nicely be
used together with a standard programming language using extensions to
call external functions.

I think we are all in a more or less advanced "adolescent stage with
xslt" and many ways to use it or to improve it are still to be found ;=)
