<xsl:template match="*">
	<xsl:copy>
		<xsl:apply-templates/>
	</xsl:copy>
</xsl:template>

since you don't seem to want to persist the attributes through the
transform.

<xsl:template match="*">
	<xsl:copy>
	<xsl:for-each select="@*">
		<xsl:attribute name="{name()}"><xsl:value-of
select="."/></xsl:attribute>
	</xsl:for-each>
		<xsl:apply-templates/>
	</xsl:copy>
</xsl:template>

if you do want to carry through the attributes.

Ben
