things that decompose

Gawd! (no criticism Jens, I truly believe that's the XSL way to do it)

This is why I cheated and got a much cleverer language to decompose my
URLs and memo the bits _before_ the XSLT transform. (This weeks post -
Dans Special theory of Relativity)

I have an enormous concern for avoiding server hooks at all times (I
develop on three COMPLETELY different XSL transformers) but bending the
language into doing jobs like this is starting to look silly. And it
can't be efficient.

Use a hammer when you've got a nail, use a screwdriver when you've got a
bottle of vodka.

Find some non-xsl way of doing this, mate. XSL may be great, but it is
not a panacea.
