java xml create a node
> How can I create a node-set out of a string?

You can not and current version XSLT WD has no sign
that it will allow this conversion in the future.

The only thing you can do is writing your own
extension function in java ( that function will be
XT-specific, to make it work with another XSLT
implementation you'l need to change your java code ).

Detailes are in the "Future XSLT extension" thread.
