a) DONT SHOUT IN UPPERCASE ON PUBLIC LISTS
b) don't keep asking the same question over and over again ignoring
   the answers you get.

ie5 does not support xslt _at all_ .
It supports a completely different language (known as xsl).

If you get the msxsl preview `web release' and install it in replace
mode then the dlls are changed and ie5 will understand a subset of xslt,
including xsl:variable.
