I forwarded your message to my son, who until recently was on the JBuilder
dev
team at Inprise. His reply was:

"Very perplexing.  I wonder what kind of spin the hotspot compiler is giving
his results."

I'm not in a position to interpret much here as I am not a Java programmer.
