Converting MS-XSLT to real XSL

I am assuming two things about Microsoft's implementation of XSL:

1)  When XSL becomes "recommended", Microsoft will release a new version of
MSXML, which fully supports the recommendation.  (Call me optimistic.  I
don't even mind enhancements, as long as they get everything else 100%
right.)

2)  They will still want to support the old version of XSLT which they
currently support, presumably differentiated by the namespace.

Based on these assumptions, is it feasible to create an XSL stylesheet that
would take one of the old MS-XSLT stylesheets, and transform it to real XSL?
Unfortunately XSL is one of my weaker points, and I only lurk on this
mailing list out of interest, but I'm thinking that if Microsoft was able to
supply their customers with such an XSL stylesheet, to transform their old
stylesheets to real ones, they could drop support for the old XSL
implementation altogether.

Any ideas?  Is it doable?  Would it be fairly simple (I doubt it), or a
horribly difficult beast?
