I believe John Cowan wrote a SAX parser for HTML: if it wasn't him, it was
someone else. You could use this as the input to an XSL engine. Saxon will
take input from an arbitrary SAX parser and I'm sure other products will
too. I've used this technique to apply XSL stylesheets to GEDCOM files,
which is a format totally unlike XML.
