xsl stripe table

I wish to stripe the rows in a HTML table, alternating between 2 colors. I am
using XT to handle non-IE 5 browsers as well as built-in support of IE 5 where
appropriate. I've tried xsl:counter but can't find the magic to use within a
xsl:if test. MicroSoft seems to have extended xsl:if to have 'expr' and shows
where you could compute the modulo of the counter to determine if even or odd.
I'm sure this is being done by one or more of you. Anyone care to share their
implementation?
Thanks in advance,
Larry Mason
