Re: Heretical view
Hi.

The result of an XSL transformation is a result tree, which is passed the
the browser to render or whatever. It's down to the browser as to whether
it allows you to dynamicaly alter the DOM after rendering.

I might well be missing something, but I don't see the difference with
regard to dynamic mainupulation of a document between HTML FOs and XSL FOs.
With dHTML you have to scope the elements you're interested in manipulating
either *this*, by indexing a collection, or by ID. You can surely scope XSL
FOs in the browser by the same methods, and then change the FO as you seem
fit.

Working on the assumption that I am missing something fundamental in your
arguement can you give a more specific example of the problems you foresee.
Can I not simply manipulate FOs dynamically.... I need to take a closer
look at the rec this weekend I think.

Cheers
     Guy.

Using FOs, it seems as though I'd need to re-transform the effected
portions
of the XML document. If I'm not certain where they are, I'd have to
re-transform it all. This is a common occurrence - think for example of a
button which causes all links in the text to be highlighted. I haven't
found
anything in the FO specs which would allow me to say "all these elements
have the exact same background color" - and let me access this color in a
single place in the DOM later on.
