Re: Entity system identifier?

Back in October, Tony Graham asked (with reference to the previous 
WD):

As far as I can see from the list archive, there were no on-list 
responses. Has anyone any ideas on whether there is a mechanism for 
doing this please? My apologies if I have missed a reply to the 
initial query.
