Hi.

I beleive there is such a beast out there already. It's a subset of HTML 4
that conforms to well formed XML, problem is I can't remeber where I saw
the DTD. You might try starting at XML.com

BTW do you think anybody was going to read the DTD you included in you
post? (No I just have to wait for the replies of "Actually I read all of it
and quite enjoyed it).

OK - hypothetical situation here...
The following is the W3C HTML 4 Strict DTD which has the format elements
removed from it, albeit an SGML version.  This DTD describes the basic
elements that make up an HTML 4 document, with support for style sheets.
The DTD lacks structured elements though.
In theory, you should be able to use an XML-ized version of this DTD (which
I'll call strictXML.dtd, for the sake of brevity), attach some XML tags to
it for structure, and parse it in an XML parser.
For example, we could have a top level DTD (for lack of a better term,
called top.dtd) as follows:
