Fair point. Check out for example 
  http://home.worldcom.ch/~jmlugrin/fesi/index.html

Also, depending on the amount of ECMAScript that XSL uses for its
expression language, it can be feasible to translate that int another
language that a particular implementation finds to be more convenient.
