I need to copy these input variables to output variables based on some condition.

It appears that we've all been talking at cross purposes, because when you say "variables" you aren't using the word in the XSLT sense, but in some other sense that you haven't fully explained.

It seems to be a very similar confusion to the one you caused by saying you were trying to convert a date in 2001 to a date in 2010.

Really, if you want to avoid wasting people's time, it's best to show a simple input document, and a simple output document, and to explain the rules for getting from one to the other.
