Re: XML/XSLT for web templating
At 11:43 AM 10/9/2007, I wrote (replying to Alessandro):
Somebody recently even reported "eBay was using it, but now they are moving
to JSP because it doesn't work". Since there's no sticker that says "made with XSLT"
or "powered by Saxon" (maybe we should start doing it) and transformed pages are still .html, it's hard to provide evidence of the contrary.

In the meantime, any company working in a competitive environment would be happy to have a rumor going around that they aren't using the technology they are actually committed to, because it's "not up to the job".

I should add ... I have no idea whether this is the case with eBay (or if I did maybe I couldn't say :-). But there are many reasons why a company might migrate away from an XML/XSLT-based system. Maybe it was designed and coded by programmers who had no clue as to what they were doing, but were caught up in unthinking enthusiasm and overgeneralized thinking, and their managers couldn't tell the difference and let them drive the train over a cliff.

Blaming the train for this is just wishful thinking (I can avoid the problem by never getting on a train), when it's the enthusiasm and overgeneralization that's the problem.
