OK, the problem was resolved in a roundabout way: I upgraded my libxslt
lib(from 1.1.11 to 1.1.20), and no more generated CDATA tags! (To be
truthful, I screwed up and inadvertently upgraded my libxml lib as well
[to 20628-SVN3625], so I'm to too sure which upgrade resolved the
problem...but I suspect it was the libxslt upgrade.)

Hope this saves someone the hours it took me to track this down...
