MK's is simpler/better actually, I used the (.|preceding-) form which is
what you need to rest for teh attribute on this-or-nearest-sibling, but 
I foroit while writing it that in your case the attribute you were
looking for is never on the current (word) element, always on an earlier
sound element, so the simpler form is all you need.
