Actually, the terminology here can be quite difficult to get right. There
were a number of places in the XSLT 1.0 specification where temporal
terminology crept in, for example:

"after the instantiation of the instruction is complete, the current node
and current node list revert to what they were before the instruction was
instantiated"

"Adding an attribute to an element after children have been added to it" [is
an error]

"The selected set of nodes is processed in document order"

It requires great care to avoid such slips.
