thanks for answering! preparing the data as wanted i could find the error. any.xml has a dtd declared that was not on the system - therefore any.xml was not well formed and also 'not available' for doc-available() and document(). in oxygen we're working with catalogs and do not have that problem...

there is no way to address oasis catalogs in saxon?
