  A few months ago, I posted in a response a mapping
construct like this:

    <xsl:variable name="map" as="element()+">
      <elem key="k1" val="v1"/>
      <elem key="k2" val="v2"/>
    </xsl:variable>
    <xsl:sequence select="$map[@key eq $searched]/@val"/>

  Michael, in a response to that, showed an
all-in-one-XPath-'for'-expression to do that, without
defining a variable.  But I'm not able to find it in the
archive.

  Does someone remember it?
