Not to take this tangent too far but:

if (a && b){do();}

Can usually be decomposed into

if(a){
  if(b){
    do();
  }
}

OTOH if you are using && for:

command-that-might-fail() && thing-to-do-if-it-succeeds()

Then there are certainly alternatives (and in my opinion this construct
is a pain).
