If not, look into Saxon's support of EXSLT, which also has a date() function. http://www.exslt.org/date/functions/date/index.html Actually, since you're using Saxon 8.6, you should just try current-date(): it might just work even in XSLT 1.0 (due to forwards-compatibility mode).
