If you set a variable with content rather that a select element it always makes a result tree fragment that corresponds to a node set with one node, a document node / perhaps you want to count $pageNumber/* or $pageNumber//* or something? Do you _really_ need to use saxon:assign? David ________________________________________________________________________ This e-mail has been scanned for all viruses by Star.
