XPath2 has several notions of equality (=, eq, is, deep-equal)
(
concat("[",()=(),"]"),
concat("[",() eq (),"]"),
concat("[",() is (),"]"),
concat("[",deep-equal((),()),"]")
)
evaluates to
[false] [] [] [true]
so the answer depends on what you mean by equality.
Note that
(
concat("[",()!=(),"]"),
concat("[",() ne (),"]")
)
evaluates to
[false] []
so () = () is false and () != () is also false. (This is teh same as in
xslt1 and is an automatic consequnce of teh implied existential
quantification in the definition of = and !=.
