It's often better to use document()'s ability to load more than one
document at the same time, as then you can build a node set of nodes
from the original documents, without having to copy.
<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0"
xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"
xmlns:x="data:,x">
<xsl:output indent="yes"/>
<x:file>file1.xml</x:file>
<x:file>file2.xml</x:file>
<x:file>file3.xml</x:file>
<xsl:template match="/">
<modulenames>
<xsl:copy-of select="document(document('')/*/x:file)//module"/>
</modulenames>
</xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>
