There are three ways that white space can get in to the putput
1) using <xsl:outputindent="yes"
2) generating white space in the stylesheet
3) copying white space from the source.

If you have white space in the result that you don't want then one of
those three is the cause, but since you din't show any of your input or
stylesheet it's impossible to guess.

Actually it is possible to guess (3)  so it might e that
<xsl:strip-space elements="*"/>
does something useful.
