The main one being that this is what the Xpath selects. Below is my understanding of the problem. myarray[i] selects the i'th myarray child of the context node. So if your xml looks like this: You have guessed here that "myarray" is to be taken literally as the part of the Xpath but "i" is not part of the XPath but a meta-variable that is just part of the email message and should be replaced by a number. It's possible that that's what the original poster meant but it's not what he said.
